We are a nonconformist collective that sees in the eyes of every child and adolescent a world of desires and infinite possibilities.
África Insular is a non-profit association composed of a team that brings together complementary skills united by a vision that aims to facilitate opportunities for students from the islands of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, with a special focus on Africa.
The unpredictability of life has already taken us through islands with challenging realities and the contact with these scenarios has brought us the desire to offer part of ourselves.
Schools are our place of work. These are the spaces that bring from our memories the strength to work voluntarily for and for the children and families of these communities.
We consider it extremely important to live in these territories for an understanding that allows us to carry out an effective and lasting work with regard to human development and education, with a deep respect for the culture of each land and its dynamics.

What We Do
Respect - Diversity is a reason for the aggrandizement of any collective, so that each cultural difference is welcomed with empathy, humility and joy.
Ethics - Commitment, dedication and truth in all movements of the project, whether in the theoretical part or in the field work.
School should be the safe place where every child and adolescent has the opportunity to grow and develop.
We believe that reading, the arts and sport are crucial instruments for this process and, in this sense, we make improvements in these fields possible. In addition to this, and because we value self-knowledge, human development and spirituality – considering that they are fundamental factors for the formation of character and, in turn, for the promotion of Peace – we also dedicate a special space to this knowledge, in a free way.
Female empowerment is also a cause that is dear to us and to which we are intrinsically dedicated.
The Team
SOFIA TONIM
Southern Hemisphere, islands and Lusophony are in her DNA.
Journalist, serial Entrepreneur in the soul and in real life. Allowing Education to reach everyone respecting each culture it is her purpose in this project.
She believes that beyond what comes in the precious books, the human, emotional and spiritual component are key.
MARIA DAS NEVES DO NASCIMENTO
A nuclear teacher. Daughter of Cape Verdeans, but born in São Tomé and Príncipe, she practiced the profession for 28 years, until she became director of the Bóbô-Fórro School.
She lives the importance of Education, and at the age of 40 he went back to school and graduated in Business Management. She dreams of being able to change the vision that her (almost) 1300 students have of school (and Education in general).

STEVEN MASSIYA
Born and raised in the beautiful city of Luanda, Angola, when he turned eighteen he had a pivotal moment in my life, because he left his hometown and embarked on a new experience, in a new continent.
Currently, at 22 years old, he is in the final stretch of his undergraduate studies and excited to kick off my professional career in Law.
JOSEFINA DEL RÍO
A traveler, restless and passionate about the world of international business, she began to do volunteer work in schools in Chile, her home country.
In Lisbon in the workplace, without realizing it, he was already an active member of Insular Africa, beginning his functions in the collection, packaging, inventory and transport of books and computers to the navy dock.
Today, she collaborates in communication, digital marketing, fundraising and the production of charity events.
LUCAS OLIVEIRA
Adventurous and always in search of new horizons, Lucas began to have experience with volunteer work at the age of 15 in schools in Brazil, and more recently was part of a solidarity medical expedition on the Amazon River.
He arrived in Lisbon in 2023 to finish his master's degree in international management, and found in África Insular a way to continue his passion for volunteering in projects with purpose and impact.
His mission in the organization is in the area of strategy, marketing and fundraising.
